Description: The department of Biotechnology has newly
instituted ?Ramalingaswamy Fellowship? for scientists of Indian
origin working outside the country in various fields of
biotechnology, life sciences, bio-engineering and translational
health science and all other related disciplines who are interested
in taking up scientific research positions in India. Ramalingaswamy
Fellows could work in any of the scientific institutions /
universities in the country and would also be eligible for regular
research grant through extramural and other research schemes of
various S&T agencies of the Govt. of India.
The main objective of the scheme is to support scientists of Indian
origin who wish to return to the home country and pursue research of
high caliber in Life Sciences/ Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology,
Bio-engineering, Translational Health Science, etc. All areas of Life
Sciences & Biotechnology, Agriculture Science, Engineering and
Health Care will be covered by this fellowship.
Eligibility: i) The fellowship is open to scientists,
physician researchers and bio-engineers from all over the world.
ii) The applicant should possess a higher degree or equivalent, such
as PhD in Life Sciences/ Agriculture, Bioinformatics, Engineering,
Masters in Engineering or Technology/ Medicine etc. and have adequate
professional experience. iii) These Fellowships are very
selective and those who have a proven/ outstanding track record as
evident from their research publications and recognitions would be
eligible. iv) The candidate has to opt for either this
fellowship or his present position/fellowship, if any.
Duration: The duration of the fellowship will be for a period of five
years. In exceptional cases, the duration of the award may be
extended by another 5 years. Nature of support:
The amount of the fellowship will be of Rs.50,000/- per month for the
first 3 years and will be increased to Rs.60,000/- per month during
the last two years. Each awardee will, in addition, receive a
contingency of Rs.5.00 lakh per annum for purchase of consumables,
equipment, international and domestic travel, engaging manpower and
other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the
implementation of the project. The Ramalingaswamy
Fellows will be eligible for regular research grants through the
extramural and other research schemes of various S&T agencies of
the Government of India. In that case, the Co-PI should be a regular
faculty member. Host Institute: The
scientists can choose to work at any S&T institution including
University Departments or other academic Institutions and National
Laboratories in India, provided the Institution at which they wish to
pursue research is willing to provide the necessary R&D,
administrative and basic infrastructural support to facilitate
research. ? The application of the scientists/technologists will have
to be forwarded by host institute. In the event assistance is
required for locating a host institute, facilitation will be provided
by DBT upon request. DBT will also facilitate collaborative work with
biotech industry upon request by the scientist during their work
period in the institutes /university. |
