Department
of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR) is a part of Ministry
of Science & Technology .
DSIR
comprises of the activities of the Council of
Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Departmental Schemes
viz. Research and Development by Industry (RDI), Programme Aimed
at Technological Self Reliance (PATSER), Scheme to Enhance the
Efficacy of Transfer of Technology (SEETOT) and National
Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT) and two
Public Enterprises viz. National Research Development Corporation
(NRDC) and Central Electronics Limited (CEL). |

Council of
Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), an autonomous body, was
constituted in 1942 by a resolution of the Central Legislative
Assembly. CSIR has been continually striving to achieve generate
new knowledge and new products, processes and technologies in
diverse areas. In the process, CSIR has grown to span a very wide
S&T base. It now over laboratories spread all over India |

department for organising, coordinating and promoting S&T

Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under the Ministry of
Science and Technology in 1986 gave a new impetus to the
development of the field of modern biology and biotechnology in
India. In more than a decade of its existence, the department has
promoted and accelerated the pace of development of biotechnology
in the country. |
Department of Space (DOS) |

The objective of the Indian
Space programme is to promote the development and applications of
Space technology and Space science for the socio-economic benefits
of the nation. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) works
under DOS. The various Centres of ISRO, in the areas of
Communication and Remote Sensing Satellites, Space Applications,
Launch Vehicles etc., are set up in different parts of India.
