Detail:
Purpose of the Award: To recognise life time contribution in
engineering made by eminent persons to any branch of engineering
within the purview of the Academy.
Eligibility: Any citizen
of India who is not a Member of INAE Council during the year
of the Award.
Criteria :An eminent Indian citizen who has made outstanding distinguished
contributions in the field of engineering/engineering research/engineering
education/technology/engineering management which have brought prestige
to the nation. The contributions may be in any discipline of engineering
involving engineering projects which have been successfully executed
and have been regarded as landmarks of technological development
of the country.
Number of Awards: Up to two Awards in a year. The Academy reserves
the right not to recommend an award in any year.
Nominations: Nominations will be invited from INAE Fellows no later
than the last day of January each year. The nominations may be sent
on plain paper in a confidential cover to the Honorary Secretary
with a brief statement of outstanding and distinguished contributions
of the nominee. Self nomination of a person shall not be considered.
Nominations shall remain valid for three years and renominations
shall be accepted. Individual members of the Committee constituted
under Para 8 of the Ordinance on the subject shall not make nominations
for the award, but shall act as Search Committee and may propose
names in addition to the ones received from the Fellowship.
Last date of Nomination: The date of receipt of nominations is the
last day of March each year.
Value of the Award: The award shall consist of a scroll, a silver
plaque and a certificate. |

Prof.
Jai Krishna Memorial Award and Prof. S N Mitra Memorial Award |

Detail:
Purpose of the Awards: To institute awards in the memory of
late Prof. Jai Krishna, Foundation President and Prof. S N Mitra,
first Honorary Secretary and Past Vice-President of the Indian National
Academy of Engineering.
(a) Prof. Jai Krishna Memorial Award shall be given every
two years in all even years
(b) Prof. SN Mitra Memorial Award shall be given every two
years in all odd years.
Eligibility: Eminent
engineers, engineer scientists or technologists of high achievements
and standing will be eligible for the awards. While Fellowship of
INAE is not essential for the candidates , they are expected to
have made contributions of a high order to Indian Engineering and
Technology and acquired a high level of eminence and respect in
the Engineering community.
Criteria: The awards
shall be given for one or more of the following :
(a) Academic and scholarly achievements in any disciplines
of Engineering and Technology,
(b) Outstanding research in engineering and technology and
application thereof,
(c) Outstanding contributions in the management of education
and research in Engineering,
(d) Outstanding achievements and contributions in the Indian
industry, engineering services or engineering projects.
Nominations: Nominations
of engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists will be invited
from the INAE Fellowship not later than the last day of April every
alternate year in the fields of Engineering, Technology, and Technical
Education Management. The nominations may be sent on the prescribed
proforma which includes a statement of the distinguished achievements
and contributions of the nominee. The nominations will be received
not later than June 30th .
Validity: The nominations
shall remain valid for three years and renominations shall be accepted. |

INAE
Young Engineer Award |

Detail:
With a view to promoting the pursuit of excellence in the field
of 'Engineering', the Academy has instituted INAE "Young Engineer
Award" and is implementing it since 1996. This is a very prestigious
award of the Academy.
Purpose of the Award: To recognise outstanding achievements /contributions
made by Young Engineers in any branch of engineering.
Eligibility: Any citizen
of India of age not more than 35 years .
Criteria: Excellence
in design and technology transfer, innovative development and engineering
research. Work submitted for consideration of the award should have
been carried out totally in India.
Call for Nominations:
Nominations of young engineers are invited from academia, Government,
R&D Laboratories, industry, and services. The sponsor must be
either a Fellow of INAE or a Head of the Organisation/ Institution
where the nominee is working. The conditions of award must be complied
with when completing a nomination.
The Award: The award
shall consist of a citation, a gold plated silver medallion and
Rs. 20,000 in cash. In addition, the awardees may be considered
by the Academy for recommendation for a suitable research grant
to further his/her chosen field of engineering, provided the proposal
submitted by the awardees is considered worthy of such support.
The Award recognizes excellence in design and technology transfer,
innovative development and engineering research work. |

Detail:
NIH has instituted two awards for encouraging studies and research
in hydrology and water resources.
- Bharat Singh Award :
Through an endowment provided by M/s Hoysala Group of Companies,
Bangalore, NIH has instituted an award in honour of Prof. Bharat
Singh former Vice-Chancellor, University of Roorkee with a cash
prize of Rs. 20,000 is given biennially to engineers, technocrats
and scientists for outstanding research work carried out in
the area of hydrology and water resources.
- The National Hydrology Award:
Is given to eminent engineers, technologists and scientists
working in the area of operational hydrology or those who have
made significant contributions for promoting hydrology. The
award money is Rs.20,000.

Innovative Student
Projects Award |

Detail: The
Indian National Academy of Engineering instituted the Award to
encourage young engineers to
|i) engage themselves in industry oriented research,
ii) to promote joint projects among Industry, Research Laboratories
and Academic Institutions,
iii) to induce Industry to take up further development of the
recognized projects, which may ultimately become new and innovative
industrial processes or products and may give first-in-the market
advantage.
A database of Engineering Institutions in the country has been
established by INAE covering Government and Private as well as
Defence Services Technical Institutions. The two best projects in
each of the major engineering disciplines at undergraduate/
postgraduate and doctoral levels recommended by the Heads of various
Engineering Institutions / Colleges will be evaluated for their
innovative potential by an INAE Steering Committee comprising of
experts from each major field of engineering. The Industry and
R&D Establishments would be approached with the award winning
projects for their further development for industrial application or
conversion into industrial processes or products. Nominations of up
to two projects/theses in each of the major engineering disciplines
are invited from Heads of Engineering Institutions at the three
levels, viz., Doctoral, Master?s and Bachelor, for assessing their
innovative potential and intrinsic merit.
Eligibility: Potentially innovative projects/theses are assessed at
three levels, viz., BE/B.Tech, ME/M.Tech and Ph.D.
Awards: The award in each of the three categories will consist of a
certificate, a medallion and Rs.10,000/- in cash and will be
presented at the Annual Convention of the Academy. |
